Sick kitty

Haven't posted in awhile because I was sick for a month and then so was Sierra :(

We took her for her first vet check up with us and decided while we were there to get the basic vaccination done.

Exactly a week later she didn't come running for her dinner....a little odd but I figured she must just be extra tired so I brought the dish to bed and she ate there no problem.

The next morning she didn't wake us up for breakfast, James opened a tin of food anyway when he got up and she ran to the kitchen. When he put the food down in front of her she just stared at it and walked away.

She didn't really eat that day or drink...nor did she want to play. She just slept a lot.
She was the sane the next day so I called the vet, they said it was a "normal" reaction to the vaccine and only bring her in in 2 days if she was still like this.

|It was a long and worrying weekend. I tried to get some food into her, even buying a couple different kinds, we even tried tuna and baby food. I squirted water into her ever so often because she wasn't drinking. I pretty much stayed awake the entire time so I could keep an eye on her.

Monday she was still the same so we took her to the vet that morning. He said she had a temp of 105 and had some kind of infection and this wasn't because of the vaccine. I really wish I had just taken her in when I wanted to, I didn't realize she had been battling an infection and fever, I felt so awful.

He wanted to keep her there for the day to give her IV fluids and antibiotics, he also wanted to do a blood test to try and find out what was going on.

So we said goodbye to Sierra and went home. I promptly burst into tears worrying about her and thinking about how I had just lost Padme this past September. Exhausted, James and I crashed for a few hours of a very crappy stressed unrestful nap.

We picked her up around 9 and the doctor told us her temp had only come down 1 degree and that she had lost a pound since her last visit. He showed us how to force feed her and egads was she pissed off. I have never heard that cat hiss before.

Once we got home and let her out of her carrier she ran into the litter-box and did the biggest pee we've ever seen. Then she spazzed around the apartment, obviously annoyed at what an awful day she'd had. She even flung off the wrap on her leg which was supposed to stay on for another half hour but since it wasn't bleeding we left her alone.

I set up the iPad for her with her favourite Youtube video, she finally calmed down enough to curl up in my lap and watch. She had to take antibiotics twice a day for the next 2 weeks. I bought those Greenies pill pockets and those worked for the first 2 days and then she refused to touch them. Thankfully the pills were tiny enough I could just pop them into her.

She's off the pills now and completely back to normal. The blood test didn't find anything wrong so the Vet said it was an FUO (fever of unknown origin) but I still think it was a very bad reaction to the vaccine >_<
